These pictures are so, so special to me. Because these two faces are some of my favorites in the whole wide world. Since Ryan couldn’t travel down to CA with Holly when we did the shoot below, we decided to do a couple shoot while we were visiting them this summer. These were taken in their backyard. And yes, they are *that* cool/amazing/artistic. My brother-in-law just opened an urban winery in Portland and they make aMAZing wines. Seriously. (www.ensowinery.com) They celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary last Spring. So proud of them. And these pictures were my way of telling them how much I love them and how I see their love story.

PS: That awesome quilt belonged to my grandparents. I have memories of sleeping over at their house under that blanket. I just the teensiest bit jealous.

You know how one song can bring back an entire flood of memories from part of your life? My sister, brother and I can all attest that “Garden Song” holds special memories from our childhood. And that was part of the soundtrack to our shoot. (It’s that song… “inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow”) Anyhow, when my sis and her boys were down visiting this summer, we dreamed up this shoot. One of her *favorite* things to do with her boys is to work in their backyard garden together; sampling their work as they go. That sheet hanging from the tree? It was from our bedding as kids. And that book she’s reading them at the end, The Maggie B., that was what my mom used to read to us. I so love these faces. There’s a lot of pictures here. Because I simply could not choose ones I liked more than the others. I took these with my heart… and so very much love.

Next up… part 2 of my sis. I did a little couple shoot with her and her hubs in their backyard!

Oh, the cuteness that day. After having 3 chunky baby boys myself, I have a total soft spot in my heart for baby rolls. And this little one just made me melt. Then his sweet little cousin just cooed and smiled and posed for my camera. It was beyond precious. The littlest man and the oldest man in this family were sharing a birthday milestones. So that made these memories extra special. Here are some highlights:

This is my cousin, his wife and their sweet kiddos. They live just a couple miles away. Maybe 2. And I love doing life with them. We’ve got our kiddos in the same preschool, share a CSA, swap baked goods (when I can get my baker cousin to share!) and let our two babies chase each other. Actually, it’s my kid who does the chasing (out of love, mind you) but they’re both pretty good sports about it! Did I mention that I love them? Anyhow, one of the things they love to do as a family is go camping. And I mean, bless her heart for doing that with 2 little ones. I cannot even imagine! So we set up camp on his folks’ property and had so much fun we nearly forgot to actually make the smores! Here’s the highlights:

Love this family! They are ridiculously beautiful and SO FUN! They just love and enjoy their kids and we had a blast on a rather breezy and chilly morning at the beach. The kids were such good sports. But that’s kind of what I love about shooting at the beach. Kids are just happy. And often you can just see things as they are. Joy. Togetherness. Love.

the hot rod

These girlies and their sweet family are previous clients of mine. And they contacted me last Spring to do a shoot of the three grandchildren with their late grandfather’s hot rod. Yes please! So they drove it to a friend’s ranch where the kiddos got to play and tinker with it. Such a cool legacy! Then the girls headed off to a tea party under the trees with their mama.

Superheroes, indeed! What a better way to celebrate boyhood, right? My long-time clients and friends in real life donned their capes & masks and chased each other around in the sun. Pretty awesome way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Here are some faves…. (oh, and btw – I have literally about 20 shoots to post on this blog. Little behind? Um, yep.) But now that school is starting I’m hoping to have a little extra time to do some more sharing. For now, I’m starting with the most recent and working backwards.

And the freckles? Love. Them. (so does his mama….)

And speaking of mama, isn’t she GORGEOUS!?

My cousin Heidi and her husband Jon are honest to goodness some of the most awesome people I know. They are fun. They LOVE their kids (and each other). A lot. They are the kind of people you want to be around because you leave happy. It’s just completely infectious. So when they were visiting back in early Spring we did this little shoot. And even though their sweet girlies were totally sick, they champed it beautifully. Here are just a few highlights from our time together.
